It holds considerable historical and functional significance as a key cultural landmark of Nerchinsk. The structure is closely linked to the celebrated Russian writer A.P. Chekhov, who resided here in 1890 during his iconic journey to Sakhalin Island.
A rectangular marble memorial plaque is mounted to the left of the main entrance, inscribed with the text: "The house where A.P. Chekhov stayed on 19 June 1890".
