Description
«The one-storey country house was built in 1910. It belonged to the architect and author of the project M.M. Timokhovich, head of the land department of the Nerchinsky District Mining Administration. The property lies in the northeastern part of the city. The house has a rectangular configuration, with small projections on the southwest side. Art Nouveau characteristics are evident in the building’s complex massing, large window openings with elaborate sash patterns, and nautical-themed ornament. Finishing details as the “captain’s bridge,” a flagpole, and other elements-now lost—once reinforced the building’s ship-like image. The house fronts the street with its south-western façade. The upper portion of the house (now lost) took the form of a deck-like superstructure with two towers and the walls were adroned with wood carvings. A distinctive feature is the continuous frieze beneath the cornice, which runs around the entire perimeter and depicts fish and water lilies. The window casings (platbands) echo the frieze’s style. In the layout of the house the central room was a square-shape living room with a cut-off western corner. To the north-west and north-east of the house lay a garden, a swimming pool, and greenhouses».
